MOTHER BLESSINGS are a sacred and powerful way to honour a pregnant mother’s Rite of Passage. Traditionally it is called a Blessing Way Ceremony and held for warriors descending into battle and also for mothers who will journey into the stars and meet their baby’s soul and simultaneously descend into the underworld throughout their birthing journey and bring baby safely Earthside .
Unlike a baby shower which is centralised around gifts for the baby, a mother blessing is all about honouring the mother and so she may carry the collective prayers of strength, the power of the feminine within her and that she may feel held by women and empowered from within and adored like a Goddess.
An intimate circle of sisterhood gives love, support and honours the mother for her profound transformation. On the March New Moon, we had a beautiful alter, we opened sacred space honouring the seven directions including honouring our ancestors and ancestors of the land, we sang songs together, we shared our hearts and laughter and tears, we were blessed to witness an Andean Paqo Pachamama Ceremony with the family to open a portal for blessings for mama and her beautiful family, and we shared healing, mindful presence, pure heart space and at the end of the day we finished the circle with a sacred water blessing with her family. Together we co-created her sacred birthing necklace, blessed water and blessings to her family, home and the journey present and future.
We are all children of this earth, we all need connection to each other and connection with the land to feel whole. It takes a village to nourish a mother and her baby.
