“The period surrounding birth is a phase in modern life that has been dramatically altered in recent decades, and the emerging scientific disciplines have shown that this period is critical in the formation of human beings” (Dr. Michel Odent, 2013).

The Oxytocin system is responsible for love, bonding, empathy, calm and connection, growth and development and this system can be interrupted through birth interventions, birth trauma and poor postpartum support for the mother.

One in seven women suffer from mental illness during the postnatal period and the main cause of maternal death in Australia is suicide. Traditional postnatal care is invisible in the modern world however so many cultures around the world have a period of mothering the mother through foods and practices which recover her health and strength, give her comfort, nurture her and also guide her into becoming a happy confident and competent mother.

Yemaya Mama’s mission is to encourage oxytocin flow and healing using continuum concept philosophy and wisdom of ancient cultures, Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine and connecting mothers to community of Sisterhood.
